Marmozets
Yorkshire math-rock with Becca Macintyre's extraordinary range on top — angular, unpredictable, and back after a long gap with the wildness intact.
Marmozets formed in Bingley, West Yorkshire, around two sets of siblings: Becca Macintyre on vocals alongside Jack Bottomley on guitar and Josh Macintyre on drums. They started playing live while still at school, with an average age of just fifteen, and initially performed under the name The Marmozets, releasing the EP Out of My Control in 2009.
Their early material sat close to mathcore and post-hardcore, built on jagged, stop-start guitar figures and Macintyre's wide vocal range, which moves between clean melody and outright screaming. Later releases smoothed some of the edges toward alternative rock without losing the odd time signatures and abrupt shifts.
The band signed to Roadrunner Records in October 2013 and released their debut album, The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets, in September 2014, which went on to win the 2015 Kerrang! Award for Best Album. They had already been nominated for Best British Newcomer at the 2013 Kerrang! Awards and voted Best New UK Band by Big Cheese magazine, and later supported Muse on their 2015 UK arena tour.
Work on the follow-up was delayed when Becca Macintyre was hospitalised with hypermobility syndrome, requiring several operations and months of recovery. The second album, Knowing What You Know Now, eventually arrived in January 2018. An extended hiatus followed before the band returned with a third album, Co.War.Dice, released in 2026.
