Seb Lowe
Oldham's protest-pop songwriter — TikTok-viral, guitar-first, state-of-the-nation verses with a busker's directness, folk-club politics for the comment section.
Seb Lowe, born in 2003, grew up in Saddleworth in Greater Manchester and started playing guitar in his early teens. He began writing songs during the Covid-19 pandemic, turning to the state of British politics at the time for subject matter, and soon started posting the results online.
The clips found an audience on TikTok, and Lowe built his following there before moving into fuller live shows. His sound draws on folk-punk, indie rock and alternative folk, and he has named Sinéad O'Connor, Led Zeppelin, Arctic Monkeys, Eminem, Jude Clark and David Bowie as influences.
His first two releases, the mini-albums Half-Decent and The Other Half, came out in November 2021 and May 2022 and were later combined for a vinyl edition. The EP I Fell In Love With A Talking Head followed in July 2023, with Make Me Your National Anthem arriving in October 2024.
Lowe made his Glastonbury debut in 2022 on the Left Field Stage, curated by Billy Bragg, and also played Neighbourhood Weekender and The Great Escape that year. In 2023 he supported Blossoms, Richard Ashcroft and Paul Weller on tour, then sold out New Century Hall in Manchester, a show later released as a live album.
