British indie rock outfit formed in 2003 from members of other Brighton bands, alternating brisk country-tinged songs with joke-length blasts of a few seconds.
Brakes formed in Brighton in 2003, drawing their line-up from members of other bands in the city's scene, including British Sea Power and Electric Soft Parade. Eamon Hamilton sings. Their records mix brisk, sometimes country-inflected indie rock with very short songs — some lasting only a few seconds — and a dry, offhand lyrical humour. For a period they released music in North America under the name The Brakes.
