Belgian brothers who built a career on mainstage maximalism, big-room drops engineered for the moment a festival crowd loses it.

Dimitri and Michael Thivaios were born in Belgium in 1982 and 1985 to Greek parents and grew up in the Flemish town of Willebroek. Dimitri left Belgium as a teenager to tour Europe, living in Mallorca and Greece before settling as a resident DJ in Ibiza clubs such as Privilege and Space.

The brothers founded their label, Smash the House, in 2010, the same year they wrote the first of several official anthems for Tomorrowland, the festival held near their home base, including "Tomorrow (Give in to the Night)," a role they kept through 2014. Their 2014 collaboration with Martin Garrix, "Tremor," was later named Billboard's best dance track of that year.

A run of Belgian number ones followed: "The Hum" with Ummet Ozcan in 2015, its video featuring Charlie Sheen and Jean-Claude Van Damme, then "Higher Place" with Ne-Yo and "Hey Baby" in 2016. "Complicated" and the live segment "Crowd Control" both arrived in 2017.

DJ Mag's readers voted them the world's top DJs in 2015 and 2019, with runner-up finishes in several other years. They have held summer club residencies in Ibiza, first at Amnesia and, since 2017, at Ushuaïa, and have collaborated with artists including Afrojack, David Guetta, Martin Garrix and Daddy Yankee, as well as remixing Lady Gaga and the Chainsmokers.

Their catalogue leans on collaborations and remixes rather than album statements, and much of the pair's reputation comes from live work: long sets, mic work between records, and edits made specifically to land in front of large crowds. Dimitri Vegas has also acted, appearing in film roles alongside the music.
