James Taylor

No festival dates we track

The fingerpicked template for American confessional songwriting, carried by "Fire and Rain" and a voice that has barely shifted in fifty years.

James Taylor was born in Boston and raised in North Carolina, and was signed to Apple Records before 'Sweet Baby James' made him one of the defining voices of early-1970s American songwriting. His guitar style is fingerpicked and steady, with the melody often carried in the thumb, and he sings just behind the beat in a soft baritone.

Alongside his own songs he has had long-running success with covers, including 'You've Got a Friend' and 'Handy Man'. He tours with a band of players he has worked with for decades, and recorded and performed with Carly Simon during their marriage in the 1970s.
