NYC anti-folk lifer — comic-book songs with more ideas per verse than most careers, performed with hand-drawn visuals in tow.

Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage is the band configuration used by the New York songwriter and cartoonist Jeffrey Lewis, a long-standing figure in the Lower East Side anti-folk scene who has released records and self-published comics since the late 1990s. The group format pushes his material toward garage rock and post-punk while keeping the density of words intact.

Lewis writes in a talky, joke-strewn style about relationships, city life, illness and politics, and his shows often include narrated songs illustrated with hand-drawn scrolls and flip-books. The Voltage line-up released the album Bad Wiring.
