Western North Carolina singer and banjo player steeped in Appalachian tradition, as much teacher and archivist as performer.

Laura Boosinger sings and plays clawhammer banjo, guitar and autoharp, drawing on the ballads, string band tunes and shape-note gospel of the southern mountains. She learned much of the repertoire from older players in western North Carolina and tends to introduce songs with where they came from and who carried them, which makes her concerts run close to a lecture-demonstration without losing the music.

Alongside performing, Boosinger has spent years in Appalachian arts and heritage work in the region, and she has recorded and toured in a duo with multi-instrumentalist Josh Goforth, her banjo and voice set against his fiddle and guitar.
