The Fairfield Four trace their origins to the Fairfield Baptist Church in Nashville in 1921, making them one of the longest-running gospel quartets in the United States. They sing a cappella in the jubilee and hard gospel quartet tradition, built on tight harmony and a deep bass foundation. The group gained a wide audience through radio broadcasts in the 1940s, and after a period of inactivity reformed and found renewed attention later in the century, including work on film soundtracks and recordings with artists from outside gospel. Their membership has turned over many times across the decades while the vocal approach has remained consistent.
