Bengaluru vocalist and flautist who scats Carnatic phrases at jazz speed. A collaborator's favorite whose range reads like a synthesizer spec sheet.

Varijashree Venugopal grew up in a musical household in Bengaluru and trained in Carnatic vocal music from early childhood, alongside the flute. Her singing draws on konnakol and the rapid solfège patterns of the South Indian tradition, which she applies to jazz harmony and improvisation, trading lines with instrumentalists rather than sitting on top of them. She works in both worlds, appearing in Carnatic settings and in jazz and cross-genre projects with musicians from outside India, and she plays flute in her own sets as well as singing.
