Wild Pink
Glowing heartland indie rock — War on Drugs warmth at bedroom scale, songs that expand like a slow sunrise.
Wild Pink began in Brooklyn and Queens in 2015, releasing the EP 2 Songs before joining Texas Is Funny Records for a second EP, Good Life, later that year. The band's self-titled debut album followed in 2017 on Tiny Engines, introducing John Ross's songwriting alongside the group's early, spare guitar sound.
The band's second album, Yolk in the Fur, released in 2018, marked the shift from that early, wiry sound toward something broader, with layered guitars, keyboards and longer build-ups. Ross sings quietly, often close to a murmur, over arrangements that draw on American heartland rock without the bombast, and his lyrics tend toward accumulated small details and plainly stated observations.
A Billion Little Lights, released in 2021 on Royal Mountain Records, pushed the sound further outward. The same year brought 6 Cover Songs, an EP of covers spanning Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen and the Jeopardy! theme tune. A fourth album, ILYSM, followed in 2022, and a fifth, Dulling the Horns, arrived in 2024 on Fire Talk Records.
The band's lineup around Ross includes bassist Arden Yonkers, drummer Dan Keegan and steel guitarist Mike Brenner. In 2020 Wild Pink contributed to a compilation supporting Bernie Sanders's presidential campaign, organized by the band Strange Ranger.
