Brazilian singer who carried funk carioca into global pop, switching between Portuguese, Spanish and English, with 'Envolver' and full-choreography shows.

Larissa de Macedo Machado was born in 1993 and grew up in Honório Gurgel, a neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro's north zone, before taking the stage name Anitta as she moved from baile funk into mainstream Brazilian pop. She signed with Warner Music Brasil in the early 2010s, and her 2013 self-titled debut album, following the single "Meiga e Abusada," entered the charts at number one and went platinum on the strength of "Show das Poderosas" and "Zen."

Anitta followed with Ritmo Perfeito and the live album Meu Lugar in 2014, then Bang in 2015, which produced the singles "Deixa Ele Sofrer" and "Bang." These records made her one of Brazil's biggest chart acts before she began looking past Brazil's borders.

Her 2017 single "Paradinha" was her first recorded fully in Spanish, opening a run of work built around Spanish and English releases aimed at markets outside Brazil, including the CheckMate project with "Downtown" and "Vai Malandra" and the trilingual Kisses in 2019. She has recorded with Maluma, J Balvin and Cardi B among others, while her Portuguese-language work keeps the funk carioca beat pattern intact rather than smoothing it out.

Versions of Me (2022) carried "Envolver," which topped Brazil's singles chart and reached number one on Billboard's Global Excl. U.S. chart, making Anitta the first Brazilian artist to lead a global chart ranking. The song brought her an American Music Award and an MTV Video Music Award, the latter repeated for "Funk Rave" and "Mil Veces" from 2024's Funk Generation, alongside Grammy nominations across her career.

Her live shows are built around dance routines with a full troupe, and she often works several languages into a single set, moving between Portuguese, Spanish and English within the same show.
