Bon Iver

No festival dates we track

Justin Vernon's project, moving from cabin-recorded falsetto folk to pitch-shifted voices and processed horns, with a choir's worth of vocalists onstage.

Bon Iver began in 2006 as Justin Vernon working alone in rural Wisconsin, singing in a high, layered falsetto over sparse guitar. The project grew outward from there into a band with horns, drums and stacked vocal harmony, and Vernon started treating his own voice as an instrument to be pitched, chopped and run through hardware. Later records leaned further into that, with track titles rendered as numbers and symbols and arrangements that break mid-song.

Vernon has also worked extensively with other musicians, including a long collaborative relationship with Kanye West and the group Big Red Machine with Aaron Dessner. Live, Bon Iver performs as a large ensemble, with several members singing.
