K.Flay
Kristine Flaherty's project, splitting the difference between deadpan rapping and sung hooks over distorted, drum-machine-heavy rock. 'Blood in the Cut' at its loudest.
K.Flay is the project of Kristine Flaherty, who began making rap tracks as a student at Stanford and released a run of mixtapes before signing to a major label. Her records put half-sung, half-spoken verses over programmed drums and heavily distorted guitar, with the vocal often processed as roughly as the instruments.
Live, she works as a frontperson rather than a rapper with a DJ, and her best-known song, "Blood in the Cut", leans on a grinding low-end riff and a shouted chorus.
