Country's resident guitar hero — a Nashville A-lister by way of Australia who plays like a rock headliner with a Telecaster.

Keith Urban, born Keith Lionel Urbahn, spent his early years in Whangārei before his family settled in Queensland, Australia, where he began performing as a child. He released a self-titled debut album in Australia in 1991, charting four singles there, before moving to Nashville in the early 1990s and forming the band The Ranch, which recorded one album for Capitol Nashville.

His solo career began in earnest with a second, American self-titled album in 1999, certified platinum and topped by his first number one, "But for the Grace of God". Golden Road followed in 2002; its single "Somebody Like You" was later named by Billboard the biggest country hit of the 2000s, and "You'll Think of Me", featuring his nephew Rory Gilliatte, brought him his first Grammy.

Be Here (2004) became his best-selling album, certified four-times platinum. Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing (2006) produced "Once in a Lifetime" and the Grammy-winning "Stupid Boy". A greatest-hits collection, 18 Kids, appeared in 2007, followed by Defying Gravity in 2009 and Get Closer in 2010.

Fuse (2013) yielded four Country Airplay number ones, and Ripcord (2015) included "Blue Ain't Your Color", which spent twelve weeks atop the singles chart, his longest run at number one. Graffiti U (2018) produced "Coming Home", The Speed of Now Part 1 (2020) paired him with Pink on "One Too Many", and his twelfth album, High, arrived in 2024.

Urban has won four Grammy Awards, fifteen Academy of Country Music Awards including the Jim Reeves International Award, thirteen CMA Awards and six ARIA Awards. He wrote and performed "For You" for the film Act of Valor, earning Golden Globe and Critics' Choice nominations, and in 2013 launched his own signature line of guitars.
