Phoebe Bridgers grew up in Pasadena and released Stranger in the Alps in 2017, followed by Punisher in 2020. She sings quietly, close to the microphone, over arrangements that build from acoustic guitar into horns, strings and, occasionally, a full scream. The lyrics work through specifics: names, places, small domestic details that carry the weight.
She records and tours with boygenius alongside Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, and made an album with Conor Oberst as Better Oblivion Community Center. She also runs the label Saddest Factory Records.
