Playboy Manbaby formed in Tempe, Arizona, in 2011 and became one of the more visible bands in the Phoenix-area underground. The line-up pairs a standard punk rhythm section with horns, and frontman Robbie Pfeffer delivers lyrics in a strained, hectoring yelp that sits somewhere between stand-up comedy and genuine complaint.
The songs are short, fast and often funny, aiming at consumer culture, local politics and self-regard, and the band has built its reputation largely through relentless regional touring and a reputation for chaotic live shows.
