Mid-nineties Harrisonburg band whose knotty, frantic hardcore fed the Virginia screamo scene that followed — long-scarce records, played live again decades later.

sleepytime trio formed in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1994, part of the small college-town network of bands that connected the mid-Atlantic hardcore underground to the emotionally charged, dissonant style that later got tagged screamo. Their music leaned on abrupt tempo shifts, tangled guitar lines and shouted vocals, with songs that rarely settled into a single groove for long.

The band's recorded output was limited and circulated mostly on small-press vinyl and compilations, which kept it hard to find for years afterward. Members went on to other projects in the same scene, and sleepytime trio's records were later reissued and the group reconvened for live shows well after its original run had ended.
