Slowdive
Shoegaze's gentlest giants — Souvlaki haze reborn for a generation that found them on the internet.
Slowdive formed in Reading, England, at the end of the 1980s, with Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell sharing vocals and guitars alongside Christian Savill, Nick Chaplin and Simon Scott. They were part of the wave of British bands filed under shoegaze, and released a run of albums for Creation Records in the early 1990s, among them Just for a Day, Souvlaki and the more ambient Pygmalion.
The band's sound rests on layered, heavily effected guitars, slow tempos and quiet, intertwined vocals that sit low in the mix. After splitting in the mid-1990s, with several members continuing as Mojave 3, Slowdive reunited in 2014 and have since released further albums to a considerably larger audience than they had the first time.
