Tame Impala
Kevin Parker's Perth psych project, written and played almost entirely alone in the studio then rebuilt on stage as a five-piece under a wall of lasers.
Tame Impala is Kevin Parker's project, begun in Perth in the late 2000s. Parker writes, plays and mixes the albums himself, working from Innerspeaker and Lonerism through Currents, where the fuzzed guitars gave way to synthesisers, compressed drums and a falsetto pushed high in the mix. "Elephant" and "The Less I Know the Better" are the songs most people arrive knowing.
On stage the material is handled by a band including Dominic Simper, Jay Watson and Cam Avery, with long instrumental passages and visuals. Parker has also produced and written for other artists, among them Mark Ronson and Theophilus London.
