The Inspector Cluzo
French farmer-rockers (literally — they raise geese) with a riff-heavy two-man wallop — sustainable agriculture and stadium riffs, one operation.
Laurent Lacrouts and Mathieu Jourdain met while studying physics together in Mont-de-Marsan and played in a band called Wolfunkind before starting the duo in 2007. The name Inspector Cluzo was suggested by Fishbone singer Angelo Moore, a nod to Inspector Clouseau of the Pink Panther films.
Working without a bass player, they build a heavy, blues-rooted sound from guitar and drums alone, a mix critics have compared to AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. They have stayed independent throughout, running their own label, F*ckthebassplayer Records, since 2012, and organizing their own bookings, publicity and sales with family and close friends.
Their discography opened with a self-titled 2008 debut recorded in Brussels, followed by The French Bastards in 2010 and The 2 Mousquetaires in 2012, packaged inside a comic book, then Gasconha Rocks and Rockfarmers by 2016. By then the duo had played more than 800 concerts in 44 countries and sold 100,000 records.
In 2018 they marked ten years together with We the People of the Soil, recorded in Nashville with producer Vance Powell. He also produced the live acoustic best-of Brothers in Ideals, drawn from an American tour and released in 2020, and the 2023 album Horizon.
The pair bought a 15-hectare organic farm in Gascony called Lou Casse in 2013, growing organic wheat and corn from their own seed stock and raising gray geese. They split their year evenly between farming and music, and teach agroecology to local children and the public, sometimes opening their own concerts with talks on the subject.
