Tim McGraw was born in Delhi, Louisiana, and raised in Start, Louisiana. His father, Tug McGraw, pitched for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies, though the two did not know each other growing up; McGraw learned of the connection as a child and only built a relationship with his father after turning eighteen.
He broke through in 1994 with Not a Moment Too Soon, which included the single 'Indian Outlaw' and was the top-selling country album of that year. McGraw has since released 17 studio albums, ten of them reaching number one on the Top Country Albums chart, and racked up 25 number-one singles among hits including 'Don't Take the Girl,' 'Live Like You Were Dying' and 'Humble and Kind.'
His awards include three Grammys, 14 Academy of Country Music trophies and 11 from the Country Music Association, and he has sold more than 80 million records worldwide. McGraw was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2026.
McGraw is married to fellow country singer Faith Hill, with whom he has recorded duets and toured extensively. Their joint Soul2Soul II Tour ranks among the highest-grossing tours in country music history, and one of the top five among all genres of music.
He has also worked as an actor, appearing in films including Friday Night Lights, The Blind Side, Flicka and Country Strong, taking a lead role in the series 1883 and appearing in flashback scenes on Yellowstone. His concert sets draw on a catalogue spanning three decades of mainstream country.
