Bourbon & Beyond is the roots-music half of Louisville's September double-header — the same Highland Festival Grounds as Louder Than Life the week before, and an almost entirely different crowd. Four days, 107 acts, and a bill built on the overlap between rock, Americana, and country: Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons, Chris Stapleton, and Dave Matthews Band take a night each, with Kacey Musgraves, Jason Isbell, Charley Crockett, The Flaming Lips, and Joan Jett underneath them. The bourbon and the food programming are billed alongside the music rather than behind it, which sets the pace of the day: a distillery talk in the afternoon, a headliner after dark, and a long, unhurried stretch of bluegrass and soul in between.
Expect country, alt-rock, folk and rock across 107 acts.

A songwriter's songwriter with a howl that turns Nashville craft into something closer to Muscle Shoals soul — 'Tennessee Whiskey' just the entry point of a stacked catalog.
From Lexington, KY · Sounds like Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Marcus King, Jason Isbell
Violin, saxophone, and Matthews's rhythmic yelp — a jam institution whose setlists still never repeat, and whose players still surprise each other nightly.
From Charlottesville, VA · Sounds like Phish, Widespread Panic, Goose, The String Cheese Incident
Thirty years of Dave Grohl turning grief and volume into the most reliably cathartic rock show going — a hits catalog three hours deep, played like it's still a club gig.
From Seattle, WA · Sounds like Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer, Pearl Jam
Banjo-driven crescendos that defined a decade of festival folk, now delivered with the electric guitars left plugged in — the singalongs never optional.
From London, UK · Sounds like The Lumineers, The Head and the Heart, Marcus Mumford, Noah Kahan
'What's Up?' — one enormous, unavoidable song and a Linda Perry vocal nobody has managed to imitate since, reunited so a whole field can scream the hey-yeah-yeahs together.
From San Francisco, CA · Sounds like The Cranberries, Alanis Morissette, Joan Osborne
Burundi drums, pirate costumes, and glam swagger — 'Stand and Deliver', 'Prince Charming', and the rest of a hits catalog that defined new wave's dress-up era at its most gleefully theatrical.
From London, UK · Sounds like Bow Wow Wow, Duran Duran, Blondie
A former schoolteacher with a honeyed, understated folk-soul voice built for the late-afternoon slot — easy warmth that has aged into deep-catalog dependability.
From Philadelphia, PA · Sounds like Ray LaMontagne, Norah Jones, Amos Lee
Backflipping former pipefitter with a howl — raw-nerve folk-country redemption songs delivered with gymnastic stage energy and zero polish where it counts.
From British Columbia, CA · Sounds like Zach Bryan, Noah Kahan, Shane Smith & the Saints
Honky-tonk and Gulf Coast blues delivered by a genuine road-worn troubadour with a hat and a story to match — an album-a-year work rate straight from the old school.
From San Benito, TX · Sounds like Colter Wall, Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers
Power-pop hall-of-famers with a five-neck guitar and a catalogue built entirely out of choruses — 'Surrender' still the correct answer to most questions.
From Rockford, IL · Sounds like The Knack, Big Star, Squeeze
Adam Duritz rewriting his own lyrics live every night — the songs never quite settle into their recorded shape, which is exactly the appeal three decades in.
From Berkeley, CA · Sounds like Hootie and the Blowfish, The Wallflowers, Toad the Wet Sprocket
The jam scene's current standard-bearers — song-first, patient, and capable of going anywhere after the second chorus, with a fanbase growing by the tour.
From Norwalk, CT · Sounds like Phish, Eggy, Karina Rykman, Dave Matthews Band
Dancing electric-violin spectacle — classical chops at festival scale, choreography and pyrotechnics included, a one-woman production that earns the word spectacle.
From Santa Ana, CA · Sounds like Apocalyptica, 2Cellos, David Garrett
Canadian alt-rock with Raine Maida's distinctive strangled falsetto sitting above the crunch — 'Superman's Dead' and national-institution status up north.
From Toronto, ON · Sounds like Live, Collective Soul, The Verve Pipe
Hushed southern-gothic folk duo trading harmonies over songs that sound like they were recorded in a room at 3am — Georgia intimacy that silences a tent.
From Georgia · Sounds like Ethel Cain, Adrianne Lenker, Noah Cyrus
Foo Fighters— Thirty years of Dave Grohl turning grief and volume into the most reliably cathartic rock show going — a hits catalog three hours deep, played like it's still a club gig.
Mumford & Sons— Banjo-driven crescendos that defined a decade of festival folk, now delivered with the electric guitars left plugged in — the singalongs never optional.
Chris Stapleton— A songwriter's songwriter with a howl that turns Nashville craft into something closer to Muscle Shoals soul — 'Tennessee Whiskey' just the entry point of a stacked catalog.
Dave Matthews Band— Violin, saxophone, and Matthews's rhythmic yelp — a jam institution whose setlists still never repeat, and whose players still surprise each other nightly.
Up-and-comers to catch early
Jesse Welles— A new protest song on the internet most weeks, and better live than the phone videos suggest.
Cameron Whitcomb— Ex-pipefitter with a howl and a backflip — the rawest half hour of Saturday.
hey, nothing— Two voices and not much else. Go early, stand close, and let the field fill up behind you.
Couch— Berklee-trained horn-pop; the most purely fun forty-five minutes on the Thursday bill.
Sawyer Hill— One song broke him overnight — the rest of the set explains why it stuck.
Max McNown— Streaming-era folk-country with a voice that quiets a field on the Sunday bill.
Other acts worth planning around
Kacey Musgraves— Nashville craft with the jokes and the knives left in — the sharpest writing on the weekend.
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit— Songs specific enough to feel like eavesdropping, played loud enough to still be a rock show.
The Flaming Lips— Confetti, balloons, and Wayne Coyne. Stand somewhere you can see the whole stage.
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts— A masterclass in pacing a rock set — no wasted seconds, no filler, no encore needed.
Charley Crockett— Prolific to the point of absurdity, and every record another dispatch from the road.
St. Paul and the Broken Bones— An eight-piece Alabama revue with a frontman who works a crowd like a congregation.
Adam Ant— Burundi drums and pirate costumes, played entirely straight and better than it has any right to be.
Yachtley Crew— Smooth '70s AM radio in captain's hats, performed with total sincerity — the weekend's best palate cleanser.
