Billy Dean is an American country singer and songwriter from Quincy, Florida, who emerged during Nashville's commercial expansion at the start of the 1990s. He worked as a songwriter and sang commercial jingles before his own records found an audience, and his best-known song, "Somewhere in My Broken Heart", established the template: a light, unhurried baritone, acoustic-led arrangements and lyrics built around a single narrative situation. Other singles from the period included "Billy the Kid" and a version of Dave Mason's "We Just Disagree". He has continued to record and perform, and has also worked in acting and songwriting for other artists.
