Black Leather Jesus is a harsh noise project founded in Texas in 1989 by Richard Ramirez, one of the more prolific figures in American noise. The group operates with a shifting membership, often performing as a large ensemble in which each participant handles a stack of pedals, contact microphones and feedback sources. Its output runs to a very large number of releases on cassette, CD-R and vinyl, typically dense, unrelenting walls of distortion, and its artwork and titles draw on leather and gay fetish imagery.
