Pittsburgh pop-punk survivors with a knack for shiny, earworm choruses — longtime road-dogs who still bring it, twenty-plus years deep.

Punchline started out as a three-piece in Belle Vernon, near Pittsburgh, in 1998, with Chris Fafalios on bass alongside brothers Steve and PJ. Their first album, How to Get Kicked Out of the Mall, leaned on ska-punk, a strain that faded fast as the band settled into the melodic pop-punk and power-pop sound they became known for.

A second guitarist joined not long after, and the lineup shifted a few times over the years while the songwriting stayed focused on bright guitars, tight harmonies and hooks pitched lighter than most of their pop-punk peers.

In 2003 the band signed to Fueled by Ramen, releasing Action the following year and 37 Everywhere in 2006, records that brought in guest vocalists from bands like Bayside and I Am the Avalanche. Punchline continued independently and on smaller labels afterward, keeping up a steady release schedule.

The band's ninth full-length, Somewhere to Land, came out in 2025, more than twenty-five years after their first shows around Pittsburgh, a run built on constant touring rather than any single breakout record.
