I Am the Avalanche
Vinnie Caruana's post-Movielife crew, trading in the kind of scarred, shout-along punk that lands hardest at 1am with your arm around a stranger.
I Am the Avalanche formed in New York in 2004 around singer Vinnie Caruana, who had previously fronted Long Island punk band The Movielife. The group's self-titled debut appeared on Drive-Thru Records, followed after a long gap by Avalanche United and then Wolverines.
The sound sits between melodic hardcore, pop-punk and gruffer post-hardcore: hoarse, conversational vocals, big group choruses and lyrics that deal plainly with friendship, drinking, grief and getting older. Caruana has also recorded solo and with the Movielife since that band's reunion, but I Am the Avalanche remains his main outlet for this heavier, shout-along material.
