La Mosca
The musical project of artist Raúl de Nieves, whose maximalist visual work and performance share the same feverish logic — beads, costume, and ecstatic noise.
La Mosca is the musical outlet of Raúl de Nieves, an artist born in Michoacán, Mexico, who moved to the United States as a child and has long been based in New York. He is best known in the art world for labour-intensive sculpture and wearable work built up from beads, thread and found materials, including the beaded figures and glass-like window installation he presented at the 2017 Whitney Biennial.
Music and performance have run alongside that practice rather than separately from it, and de Nieves has been a fixture of New York's experimental and queer performance circles for years. La Mosca carries the same handmade excess into sound, with de Nieves singing and performing in costume.
