Clutch formed in Germantown, Maryland in 1990 and have kept the same four members for essentially their whole career: Neil Fallon on vocals, Tim Sult on guitar, Dan Maines on bass and Jean-Paul Gaster on drums. Early records leaned on hardcore-adjacent aggression before the band settled into the heavy blues-rock and stoner-rock groove they are best known for, with Fallon's declamatory, story-driven lyrics about conspiracies, folklore and Americana riding over riffs built for repetition.
They have released a long run of albums, several on their own Weathermaker Music imprint, and built their reputation primarily as a touring band, playing steadily for decades across clubs, theatres and rock festivals.
