Joy Oladokun
Bedroom-folk confessionals for the anxious generation — protest music that sounds like a hug.
Joy Oladokun is an American singer-songwriter, born in Arizona to Nigerian immigrant parents and later based in Nashville. She began writing after taking up guitar as a teenager, and her songs draw on folk, soul and quiet indie-pop, built around fingerpicked guitar and layered vocals.
Her writing is direct and largely first-person, addressing faith, race, queerness and doubt without raising its voice, and she has collaborated with a range of pop, country and rock artists while remaining outside any single genre.
