Ogbert the Nerd formed in New Jersey in 2019 and came up through the house-show circuit around New Brunswick. The group works in a lineage that runs from Midwest emo through post-hardcore: clean, interlocking guitar lines that give way to distortion, rhythm sections that shift tempo mid-song, and vocals delivered closer to a shout than a croon. Songs tend to be brief, often clearing out before the two-minute mark, and the recordings keep some of the roughness of the rooms the band learned to play in.
