Pendulum
Australian drum-and-bass played by an actual rock band — the live show is louder and more physical than the records suggest.
Pendulum formed in Perth, Australia, in 2002 around Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen and Paul Harding, and later relocated to the United Kingdom. Their early records applied rock production values and Swire's sung vocals to drum and bass, producing a dense, heavily compressed sound that found an audience well beyond the genre's usual circles.
The project expanded into a full live band, performing the material with drums, bass and guitar rather than from decks, and later albums moved further towards electronic rock. Swire and McGrillen also record as the electro house duo Knife Party.
