The Black Dahlia Murder
Melodic death metal played with a fan's enthusiasm — carrying on after the loss of their frontman, with the songbook honored nightly.
The Black Dahlia Murder formed in 2001 in Waterford, Michigan, and became one of the more consistent American bands working in melodic death metal, drawing on Swedish influences while keeping a distinctly American sense of pace and aggression. Their sound centres on twin-guitar harmonies, blast beats and a two-tier vocal approach alternating high shrieks and low growls. Founding vocalist Trevor Strnad, known for his enthusiasm as a metal fan and champion of other bands, died in 2022; the group continued with longtime guitarist Brian Eschbach moving to vocals. Their catalogue includes Nocturnal, Ritual and Everblack.
