A Broadway-honed Telecaster player pushing honky-tonk into long-form psychedelic territory — country chops with a jam band's appetite for the unknown.

Daniel Donato is a guitarist and singer based in Nashville, where he spent his teenage years playing long nights in the honky-tonks on Lower Broadway. That apprenticeship left him with a chicken-pickin' Telecaster vocabulary rooted in classic country, which he has since pushed toward the improvisational.

Performing with his band under the Cosmic Country banner, Donato stretches original material and covers into extended, exploratory jams that draw on the Grateful Dead's country side as much as on Bakersfield or outlaw traditions. The live show is built around improvisation, with arrangements that shift substantially from night to night.
