Dora Jar
Left-field alt-pop from a songwriter who bends her voice into odd, lovely shapes — small songs with strange architecture.
Dora Jar is the project of American singer, guitarist and songwriter Dora Jarkowski, who was born in New York and spent part of her childhood in California before splitting her time between Los Angeles and London. She built an audience through a run of self-released and EP-length collections in the early 2020s, later signing to Interscope.
Her songs pair fingerpicked and looped guitar with unsettled electronic production, and she treats her voice as a flexible instrument, sliding between whispered near-speech, clipped rhythmic phrases and sudden leaps into a high, clear register. The writing tends toward short, unconventional structures rather than straightforward verse-chorus forms. She has toured widely as an opening act, including support slots for Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo, which brought her live show — often built around her own guitar work — to arena audiences before her own headline shows.
