Drugdealer

1 festival played

Michael Collins' revolving Los Angeles project, rebuilding sun-bleached 1970s AM pop with a rotating cast of guest vocalists out front.

Drugdealer is the project of Michael Collins, based in Los Angeles. Collins had previously recorded under other names in more experimental modes before shifting toward the loose, melodic songwriting that defines Drugdealer: soft-rock chord changes, unhurried tempos, piano and acoustic guitar, and arrangements that draw openly on early-1970s Californian pop and Laurel Canyon records.

The project functions as a collective as much as a solo act, with Collins writing and producing while inviting other singers to take lead vocals across the albums — Weyes Blood among them — so that the records shift character from track to track.
