Briston Maroney

1 festival played

Nashville guitar-pop with a rasp and a big chorus — festival-ready without being calculated about it, 'Freakin' Out on the Interstate' still the calling card.

Briston Maroney grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and is based in Nashville. He first drew attention as a teenager through a television singing competition, then built a following in indie rock with a run of EPs and, later, full-length albums. His songs pair scrappy, fuzz-edged guitar with a hoarse, cracking voice and choruses written to be sung back, and the writing tends toward restlessness, adolescence and the anxious edges of growing up. "Freakin' Out on the Interstate" remains his best-known song.
