Ben Kweller
A 2000s indie-pop lifer whose songs about very ordinary things have quietly outlasted most of the scene — power-pop craft worn as casually as a thrift-store tee.
Ben Kweller grew up in Greenville, Texas, and first drew attention as a teenager fronting the band Radish before moving to New York and beginning a solo career in the early 2000s. His songs pair plainspoken lyrics with power-pop structures, played on guitar and piano, and his early records placed him alongside the loose circle of singer-songwriters that included Ben Folds and Ben Lee — the three toured together as The Bens. Later releases moved through country and rock textures without abandoning the melodic directness of his earliest work. On stage he often performs solo or with a small band, switching between instruments.
