Jade Bird

British songwriter with a snarl in her voice and a foot in Americana — folk-rooted songs delivered loud enough to work with a full band behind them.

Jade Bird is a singer and songwriter from the north of England who began releasing music in her late teens, drawing on American country and folk traditions as much as on British indie rock. Her voice is the main event: unpolished at the edges, capable of shifting from a hush to a full-throated bark inside a single line, often over strummed acoustic guitar that a band then pushes into rock territory.

Early songs including "Lottery" and "Uh Huh" established the balance she has kept since — sharp, conversational lyrics about resentment, restlessness and leaving, set to melodies built for singing along. She has since worked with fuller, more produced arrangements while keeping the writing direct.
