Weezer

1 festival played

Rivers Cuomo's long-running power-pop institution, still balancing crunching guitars against sweetly miserable melodies — three decades of hooks and sweaters.

Weezer formed in Los Angeles in 1992 around singer, guitarist and principal songwriter Rivers Cuomo. Their self-titled debut, commonly called the Blue Album, was produced by Ric Ocasek and yielded "Buddy Holly," "Undone – The Sweater Song" and "Say It Ain't So." The follow-up, Pinkerton, was received coolly on release but was later widely reappraised and is often cited as an influence on emo and indie rock.

The band's music combines heavily distorted guitars with pop melodies and harmony vocals, and lyrics that mix self-deprecation, awkwardness and pop-culture reference. Weezer has continued to record prolifically since, with several albums identified only by cover colour, and remains a consistent touring act.
