Snow Patrol
Gary Lightbody's band, together since the mid-nineties and long past needing to prove the big chorus — slow-build alt-rock that became a stadium language.
Snow Patrol began in the mid-1990s among students in Dundee, Scotland, with Northern Irish singer and guitarist Gary Lightbody as the constant at the centre of the line-up. The band spent several years on the independent label Jeepster before signing to a major, and its sound shifted from scrappy indie rock toward wide, slow-building alternative rock designed to carry across large rooms.
The breakthrough came with the album Final Straw and the single "Run," followed by Eyes Open and "Chasing Cars," which became one of the most widely played rock songs of its era and gave the group a lasting international audience. Later records, including A Hundred Million Suns and Fallen Empires, kept the same balance of quiet verses and heavily amplified choruses.
