KALEO formed in Iceland in 2012, fronted by singer and guitarist JJ Julius Son. The band's sound draws on blues rock and folk, with acoustic and slide-guitar arrangements set against Julius Son's rough, high-volume vocal delivery. Material is recorded in both English and Icelandic.
The group relocated to the United States and reached a wide audience with "Way Down We Go," which was used extensively in television and film and remains the song most listeners know them by. Live, the band tends to move between quiet folk passages and full-volume rock arrangements.
