The Revivalists
New Orleans-rooted eight-piece with pedal steel and horns folded into big-tent rock — 'Wish I Knew You' and a jam band's appetite for stretching out.
The Revivalists came together in New Orleans in 2007, growing into an eight-piece fronted by singer David Shaw. The lineup includes pedal steel, saxophone and additional horns alongside the standard rock instrumentation, which gives their records a fuller, more soul-inflected sound than most guitar bands of comparable size.
The 2015 album Men Amongst Mountains produced "Wish I Knew You," which became a substantial alternative radio hit and brought the band a national audience. Live, they lean on extended arrangements and improvisation, a habit that has kept them close to the jam band circuit even as their studio work has grown more concise.
