My Bloody Valentine

1 festival played

Loveless made the loudest beautiful music ever recorded — earplugs mandatory, transcendence likely.

My Bloody Valentine formed in Dublin in 1983 and are led by guitarist and singer Kevin Shields, alongside vocalist and guitarist Bilinda Butcher, bassist Debbie Googe and drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig. After early releases in a rougher noise-pop vein, the group arrived at the layered, pitch-bending guitar sound that became central to shoegaze — sheets of tremolo-treated distortion with buried, androgynous vocals floating on top.

Loveless remains their best-known work and one of the defining records of the style. The band has been intermittently active over the years, with long gaps between releases, and their live shows are known for extreme volume.
