Steve Okonski of Durand Jones & The Indications leads a dusty, late-night soul-jazz piano trio on Colemine Records — Guaraldi warmth after hours.

Okonski is an instrumental trio led by pianist Steve Okonski, who plays keyboards in Durand Jones & The Indications. The group works in a piano-bass-drums format, drawing on soul-jazz, gospel voicings and the softer end of library and film music, with a recorded sound that favours room tone, brushes and restraint over solos. The pieces are generally short and melodic rather than improvisational showcases, closer to mood writing than to a conventional jazz trio session, and the records have been issued through the soul-focused Colemine label.
