Randy Newman

No festival dates we track

Songwriter of unreliable narrators and New Orleans piano, and the voice behind decades of Pixar and Disney scores.

Randy Newman came out of a Los Angeles family of film composers and began as a staff songwriter in the 1960s, with other artists cutting his material before his own albums found listeners. His songs are often sung by characters he does not endorse, the device behind "Short People" and much of Good Old Boys. "I Love L.A." and "Sail Away" show the same gap between the tune and the narrator.

From the late 1980s he moved into film, writing for The Natural, Ragtime and then the Toy Story films, where he sang "You've Got a Friend in Me". He performs solo at the piano, talking between songs.
