Michigan midwest-emo risers — 'always cloudy' and ascendant, twinkle-and-shout catharsis for the new wave, the next names in the scene's group chat.

Saturdays At Your Place formed in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 2021, started by three friends at Western Michigan University. The founding lineup was Esden Stafne on bass and vocals, Gabe Wood on drums and vocals, and Mitch Gulish on guitar and backing vocals, with an early member, guitarist Paxton Earl, leaving the same year.

The band's sound draws on the Midwest emo tradition: clean, interlocking guitar figures, unpolished vocals and dynamic shifts between quiet verses and loud, shouted choruses. Songs stay short and are built around melodic guitar lines rather than heavy distortion, with lyrics that stay in the register of specific, small-scale personal detail.

They released a debut album, something worth celebrating, in 2021, the year the band formed. The EP always cloudy followed in 2023 and brought them wider attention within the fifth-wave emo and DIY scene. A second full-length, these things happen, arrived in September 2025.

The band has toured with acts from the same scene and put out its music through independent labels, building a following through steady releases rather than a single breakout moment.
