Sick Puppies
Australian trio who spent the late 2000s making radio-sized post-grunge — big choruses, bigger riffs, and a knack for songs that soundtrack a fight.
Sick Puppies formed in Sydney in the late 1990s around guitarist and singer Shimon Moore, bassist Emma Anzai and drummer Mark Goodwin. The band relocated to Los Angeles in the mid-2000s, where their music found a home on American rock radio.
Their sound sits between alternative rock, hard rock and post-grunge: distorted riffs, melodic vocal lines and choruses built for volume, with Anzai's bass playing a more prominent role than the style usually allows. The band's profile grew considerably after their song "All the Same" was attached to the widely circulated Free Hugs Campaign video. Moore left the group in the mid-2010s and was replaced on vocals by Bryan Scott, with Anzai and Goodwin continuing as the band's core.
