Ice-T's crossover thrash outfit, formed in Los Angeles with guitarist Ernie C at the end of the 80s — rap-honed political fury delivered at hardcore speed, and still no interest in softening it.
Body Count was formed in Los Angeles at the end of the 1980s by Ice-T and guitarist Ernie C, drawing on the thrash and hardcore records the two had grown up around rather than on the rap career that made Ice-T's name. The band's 1992 self-titled debut arrived with the track "Cop Killer," which triggered a national political controversy and was eventually removed from later pressings of the album.
Musically the group works in fast, riff-heavy crossover territory, with Ice-T delivering lyrics as a shouted, rap-inflected bark over Ernie C's playing. Several original members have since died, but Body Count has continued recording and touring, with later albums keeping the same combination of horror imagery, humour and blunt political commentary.
