Bassist turned bandleader, writing songs that sit between bluegrass and older mountain music and singing them herself.

Missy Raines is a bass player from West Virginia who spent years as a sideman in bluegrass and acoustic bands, including work with Eddie Adcock, before fronting groups under her own name. The IBMA has named her bass player of the year repeatedly. With Allegheny she moved back toward the older end of the music after a stretch of more contemporary and jazz-leaning work, singing lead on material that reaches into Appalachian song as much as bluegrass proper.
