Ralph Stanley II, known as Two, grew up in Dickenson County, Virginia, and joined his father's Clinch Mountain Boys as a guitarist and singer in the mid-1990s, taking many of the lead vocals on the band's recordings and shows through the last two decades of Ralph Stanley's career. After his father's death in 2016 he kept the band working under the same name. His voice sits lower and rougher than the high lonesome tenor associated with the Stanley Brothers, suited to the older ballads and the gospel numbers that anchor the repertoire.
